Warning for postmenopausal women with gum disease

Research has shown that gum disease can seriously increase the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. This is believed to be the result of systemic inflammation that originates in infected gums, and also the bacteria of the mouth that may enter the circulatory system from the gums. Both of these things may be affecting the breast tissue. If you are concerned in any way that this may affect you then please give us a call on 0115 960 2717 to schedule a review with our periodontist Dr Thushanthi Rajah. Please remember that regular hygiene appointments are also key to preventing gum disease.
