Help My Tooth has been Knocked out!

Help ive had an accident and ive knocked my front tooth out what should i do?

Follow these steps to improve your chances of saving the tooth and hopefully minimising the cost of dental treatment needed to retain your smile.

  1. Stay Calm.
  2. Find the tooth immediately.
  3. Gently rinse under running tap or cold milk to remove any large dirt particles.
  4. Avoid scraping the root, and try to hold the tooth by the crown (the other end to the pointy bit).
  5. Replace the tooth as quickly as possible with the pointy surface going into the socket first and the crown end facing out into the mouth. (Place as far into the socket as possible until level with the other teeth, a child will normally stop you as it will be sore before it is fully seated into place.)
  6. Keep the tooth in place by biting /asking the child to bite on a piece of cloth.
  7. Seek an immediate dental consultation and treatment with your dentist  (or the Emergency Dental Service) or go to the Accident and Emergency Unit as soon as possible.

If you cannot replace the tooth at the site of th injury:

  1. Avoid scraping the root, put the tooth in a moist environment (preferably some cold milk) and arrive as soon as possible at the dentist for consultation and treatment (Emergency Dental Service) or go to the Accident and Emergency Unit as soon as possible.
